Jamila Gavin was born in India, in the foothills of the Himalayas and moved to England as a child. She is one of Britain's most acclaimed children's authors having won the Whitbread Children's Book Awards and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. David Parkins is a renowned illustrator and cartoonist who has worked on The Beano and The Dandy, and has illustrated over 50 books.
